When I Lost You
I never thought it would end this way.
Me holding your hand while you lie there.
Sitting, crying, hoping, praying you stay a little longer.
I never thought I'd see you like this.
You lie there still and stiff not moving, just staring.
When you look at me and tell me you love me
it will be the last time i hear how much you care.
I hold your hand and tell you how much you mean to me
abd how I'll miss you so.
Minutes go by and now you're drawing your last breath
as the doctors tell me to leave.
I sit and wait and cry and pray to God to take me instead.
An hour passes and the doctor comes out
and says he's done all he can.
I burst into tears and hit my knees and ask God "why"?
I never thought it would end like this now you're gone
and i'm alone,
but i know that one day we will reunite
behind those pearly gates and be together for eternity.
