Mother's Touch
This story is going to sound silly...I can't show that these things happened and have only spoken of these things to one other person, my brother Joe.
Our mom died of cancer in 1983. We had a very close family and my mom was more than a parent. She was a friend to us too. I had an especially close relationship with her as I was the last child to leave home.
My mother died very peacefully in our family home. She was surrounded my her family at the time of her passing. I have since bought my parent's house and have come to belive that the spirit of my mother is still there. Nothing truly remarkable has ever happened, but there are times that footsteps can be heard when the house is empty. They make the sound of slippers gliding over carpet and occasionally stepping on a creaky floorboard. There are other occasions when her favorite perfume, Calvin Klein's Obsession can be smelled in the air, despite the fact that her belongings were given away and there is none of that perfume left in the house any more.
I've had several experiences where I felt that mom visited me in a dream. Let me begin by saying that I work shift work and have an abnormal sleep schedule. I generally am a very sound sleeper. I generally do not dream, or never remember them if I do. So these vivid experiences that I can remember in full detail stand out. I remember in one such occurence, waking up from sleep (or dreaming that I woke up) to see her standing in the doorway of my room. She was wearing the familiar white robe that I remembered as a child that she used to like. I was surprised to see her, since my rational mind knew she was gone. I asked her what she was doing here. She told me that she just wanted to see her children again and make sure they were alright. I remember feeling her touch as she stroked my hair. The next thing I remember was waking up from sleep crying that I didn't want her to go. To this day the event seems so real ... but I will never be able to distingusih it from grief althou! ! gh it happened some time after her death. Since then, I've had 2 or 3 other very simialr occurences.
I've only recounted these experiences to one other person, my brother Joe. I was shocked when he didn't call me nuts, but rather told me of his similar experience in which mom visited him in a dream and told him to take care of dad and I (he's the oldest son). This occured during while he was staying at my house after separating from his wife, and was several years after she passed away.
As I said, to most these occuruences would sound like a greif reaction, but they are true. I am a very sane, educated, professional person, as is my brother. To the best of my knowledge, these events are true.
